I'll get by with a little help from my friends...

So I haven't done a blog in a while, so it's time...

So last week I had an appointment with my gyno. First off, I think I have a girl crush on her. She's the nicest person I've ever met.

Anyway, when she was asking me about my family's health history & I proceeded to tell her I'm getting screwed from all directions... my dad has Parkinson's Disease and my mom has every health condition under the sun... but my doctor was most worried about Diabetes. She recommended that if I wanted to be more informed & educated that I should read the South Beach Diet. The diet was created by a cardiologist developed for his patients facing stroke, heart-attack, pre-diabetes and diabetes.

This is taken from their website:

The diet is divided into three Phases. The first Phase lasts two weeks and is designed to eliminate cravings and kick-start weight loss. The second Phase is intended to produce long-term, steady weight loss. You'll stay in Phase 2 until you reach a healthy weight. Then you'll move to Phase 3, the lifestyle Phase. This is how you'll eat and live 365 days a year - and it's the key to maintaining your new, healthy weight.

So I've finally finished reading the informational part of the book- telling you about why what you eat makes you gain weight & become unhealthy, good carbs vs. bad carbs, the importance of exercise & exercising carefully, & why doing the south beach diet will help you not only lose weight, but be a healthier person and make healthier decisions!

I'm pretty excited about the possibilities. The book also comes with a workout plan. Not like a crazy one, but one anyone can do. During Phase I you do interval walking every other day, and then some toning & training exercises in between. During Phase II & Phase III of the diet you do a combo of these exercises. I'm pretty sure once I start exercising, I'll enjoy it, and hopefully loose some of this flab around the middle :o)

So here's the bummer part... Since I am living at home for the time being, I've asked my parents if they'll help me along... (Phase I = 2 weeks.... 2 weeks of NO CARBS, yea I'll need some help.)

As I'm explaining it to them, my dad is watching House Hunters and my mom is complaining and insisting that
"this is going to be too expensive Lindsay, we'll never be able to afford the kind of stuff they're telling you to eat..."

What else is new . Ya know, maybe it wouldn't be so expensive if YOU didn't go to the grocery store EVERYDAY and buy tons of useless crap that she either cooks and has a ton of left overs, of just sits in the fridge b/c no one eats it. I can't even begin to list the weird stuff that she buys and wastes so much money on.

But here's the thing...

Most of the things I'll need to get for these first two weeks, won't be that expensive. Canned vegetables- last time I checked weren't breaking anyone's bank.

It's just so frustrating when I'm really trying to do something that is going to be good for me. They know just as well as I do that I need to lose some weight... in fact, they bring it up pretty regularly, whether it be in a joking way or not, it's brought up. So how about this? When I actually try to make an effort to better myself... help. Be supportive & don't belittle something you don't even know will work/won't work.

Reason 239847238974823 I need to move out.
